A new charity organization provides financial assistance to professional truck drivers with medical problems who are unable to afford health care.

The St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund was established by Dave Nemo and Michael Burns with Dave Nemo Entertainment, in conjunction with Professional Drivers Medical Depots.

When professional drivers and their families face financial problems as a result of medical problems, the SCF provides assistance to support the family. SCF grants help through a variety of ways, including direct payment for medical services or prescription drugs, assisting with expenses while the driver is recovering from illness and is out of work, or negotiating price reductions with insurance companies, medical providers and hospitals.

By following guidelines that establish a clear medical and financial need, the SCF determines which drivers qualify for assistance and the amount given. Additionally, the SCF plans to conduct health research to benefit professional drivers and the trucking industry. For instance, studies may be done looking at sleep disorders and weight loss, diet, and exercise programs.

The SCF hopes to raise $100,000 with its initial kick-off. The organization recently launched its 900 number, 900-526-4444, which will allow people to call in and donate $10. For each call, $10 will be automatically billed to the cell phone or number where the call originates.
