Country Music Television's show "Trick My Truck" featured a new technology auxiliary air conditioning system from Dometic Environmental Corp. June 20 on the episode "Chill Factor."
The cast of "Trick My Truck" features big rig truck mechanics who "steal" the rigs of lucky truck drivers and customize them, turning the drivers' dreams into reality. For the "Chill Factor" episode, the makeover mechanics decided to use Dometic's new battery-powered air conditioning system, which will keep the driver cool at rest stops without idling his engine.
"Our show focuses on creating the perfect atmosphere for truck drivers to enjoy while they are working hard on the road," said Phil Ash, associate producer, "Trick My Truck" series. "What better way to reward a driver than to install a system that will keep him comfortable and help save on fuel?"
Dometic's system runs on 12-Volt power from an onboard bank of batteries which is converted into 115-Volt AC power through an inverter. Since no separate diesel genset or other internal combustion engine is involved, the system meets all of the most stringent clean-air regulations without any future modifications.
"The trucking industry is becoming more and more aware of the cost of idling a diesel engine throughout the night, especially as the cost of fuel rises," said Lou Siegel, senior vice president, marketing and strategic business development for Dometic. "Our system, which uses no fuel, emits no air pollution and is virtually maintenance free, is designed to really keep cab temperatures at a comfortable level for 10 hours or more on battery power."
