Alvan Motor Freight, Kalamazoo, Mich., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to published reports.

The regional LTL announced Saturday it would end operations and file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after 67 years in business.

Rising fuel prices and a nearly three-month-long strike at American Axle, one of the company's top customers, were blamed for the company's demise.

Alvan Motor Freight employes about 525 people and has terminals in Indiana, Illinois, Michican and Ohio. The company was founded by the family of James Van Zoeren, president and chief executive officer.
