Shell Lubricants has introduced Shell Spirax ASX R, a new long-life axle fluid that offers improved fuel economy. In standard industry and commercial fleet tests, Shell Spirax ASX R has demonstrated a fuel efficiency improvement of more than one percent
when compared to several products in the same application.
Shell Spirax ASX R axle fluid is specially formulated with synthetic base oils and additive technology that provide improved lubrication of the drive train, lowering the operating temperature to help promote long equipment life. Shell Spirax ASX R is approved by several OEMs for their extended drain specifications and meets the requirements of Dana SHAES 256 Rev C (500,000 mile oil drains, with warranty for 750,000 miles), which demonstrates the long drain capability of the fuel-efficient formulation. The extended drain intervals provide less overall lubricant usage during the life of the equipment.
"It is important that fleet managers and drivers are aware of the benefits quality axle lubricants can provide," said Walt Silveira, U.S. technical services manager for Shell Lubricants. "Our new Shell Spirax ASX R axle fluid provides enhanced fuel efficiency while protecting the essential components of the drive train."
Designed for heavily loaded axles, Shell Spirax ASX R offers excellent protection against gear wear and pitting, which helps prevent premature failures. The product's outstanding oxidation resistance also helps prevent damage to seals due to deposit formation. The lubricant has excellent static and dynamic seal compatibility that meets or exceeds a number of leading OEM requirements and helps minimize seal leaks.
Shell Spirax® ASX R axle fluid may be used with companion product Shell Spirax GSX 50 transmission fluid. Shell Spirax GSX 50 is a Roadranger Genuine Lubricant for use in Eaton extended warranty transmission service. Shell Spirax ASX R may be used as a transmission fluid in non-synchronized transmissions where mineral and synthetic gear oils are recommended for applications requiring an API GL-5 product.
