A total of 45 students - all children of employees at Con-way Inc. and its subsidiary operating companies - are recipients of educational grants through the Con-way Scholarship program. The program annually provides
scholarships to deserving students who have demonstrated extraordinary academic, community and civic achievement.
Under the 2007 program, the company awarded 45 new scholarships and renewed 99 existing scholarships for children of employees at parent company Con-way Inc., LTL trucking firm Con-way Freight, full-load transportation company Con-way Truckload and global logistics provider Menlo Worldwide.
A total of $60,000 in scholarships was awarded for the 2007-2008 school year. In its 15th year, the program has awarded more than $2.7 million in academic grants to nearly 900 students.
"We believe there is no better way to help the children of our employees and encourage their future success than by supporting their goals for a college education," said Douglas W. Stotlar, president and CEO of Con-way Inc.
Recipients are enrolled in four-year undergraduate and specialized technical school programs. Winners represent a wide variety of academic majors, including pre-medicine, engineering, accounting, communications and business.
Students with a parent employed by Con-way may apply for scholarships after the parent's third year of continuous employment. Awards may be renewable for up to three years until the student graduates with a bachelor's degree.
