Some 17 National Guard reservists serving in the nation's military had their day brightened recently with the arrival of "care packages" from their co-workers at Con-way Freight.
The company's employees recently completed their sixth Con-way Cares drive,
Con-way Freight Ships Packages to Reservists in Iraq
collecting donated goods from employees throughout the company, as well as customers and suppliers, which were then packed and shipped to their fellow employee/soldiers. The packages went to 10 soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and seven deployed stateside.
The Con-way organization started the Con-way Cares initiative two years ago as a support program for co-workers deployed overseas. Over the past two weeks, Con-way employees prepared and shipped out 156 care packages totaling 4,302 pounds of donated items - marking the company's sixth and largest shipment to date. Items collected include everything from clothing to magazines, books, hard candies, bottled water, shampoo, soap, other snacks and foodstuffs - even flea collars (which the soldiers wrap around their boots to keep sand fleas at bay).
Similar efforts are under way at other Con-way Freight locations nationwide.
