Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake plans to begin operating a new foundation brake production facility in the fourth quarter of this year at a location that is to be announced later.

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake is a joint venture of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC and Dana Corp. Foundation drum brake (S-Cam) production will move from its current location at a Dana Corp. facility in Glasgow, Ky. Air disc brake production will be transitioned from a Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC facility in Frankfort, Ky. Bendix said its Frankfort facility, which also manufactures air compressors, is anticipated to shut down operation by late 2007.
The location for the new Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake facility has not yet been finalized, although the company is evaluating sites in both Kentucky and Tennessee, within commuting distance of Glasgow.
Kishor Pendse, president of Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake, said, "This new plant will provide us a business unit-focused manufacturing operation for our highest-volume and greatest growth-potential products. The move is a natural next step in our global manufacturing facilities strategy
Initially, the new facility will employ approximately 175, with continued growth expected as product demand and production expansion dictates.
Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake, formed in July 2004, is a single, complete source for foundation brake system research, design, manufacturing, hardware and support for all pneumatic foundation brake components and actuation systems for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
