Two Virginia rest areas will be closed for reconstruction starting Sept. 29.

The new I-95 South Fredericksburg Welcome Center will have approximately 14,500 square feet, additional restrooms, and ground and parking improvements, including three additional spaces for tractor-trailers. Work to replace the original rest area is slated for completion by July 9, 2007.
The new I-64 West New Kent Safety Rest Area will have over 9,000 square feet, additional restroom facilities, new landscaping and parking improvements, including four new truck parking spaces and shoulder improvements on the ramp to make truck access easier. It is slated for completion by June 9, 2007.
The projects are part of a $20 million statewide improvement program to renovate 11 Virginia safety rest areas and to reconstruct three safety rest area and welcome center locations.
