The Coleman Co. Inc. has named Central Freight Lines Inc. as its Carrier of the Year for 2005.
Award criteria include on-time performance, efficiency and care in handling product,
trailer change speed and cube standard compliance. Proactive communication of delays, problem solving and cooperation with the line team are also part of the equation. Brenda McMallow, Central Freight terminal manager, and James Tauber, Central Freight driver, received special recognition for their key roles in winning this year’s award.
According to Bill Van Deventer, director of distribution at Coleman, a carrier can make or break Coleman’s reputation with its customers. “We trust our carriers to provide us with seamless fulfillment of customer orders, many having multiple drop locations,” he said. “We’ve come to count on Central Freight’s exceptional customer service and, in fact, excellence from all our carriers, to help us meet our product delivery requirements. But this year, Central Freight went above and beyond in providing Coleman with outstanding service.”
Chris Long, Coleman shipping lead, designed the tracking system for the Carrier of the Year award five years ago. “For the past five years, the monthly scorecard system has made a significant improvement in the logging and communication of carrier performance,” Ven Deventer said. “It’s provided improved communication with our carriers, letting them know what we and our customers expect in terms of service. Our carriers actively compete to win this award, and Coleman is pleased to recognize their critical contribution to our overall success.”
