J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., Lowell, Ark., has been named to Network World magazine’s list of 50 Enterprise All-Stars, which honors companies with stellar technology projects.
The company was recognized for two separate technology projects designed to reduce costs and improve customer service. The first project recognized was the company’s proprietary People and Administration Client Engine (PACE) system. This technology differs from standard payroll and billing systems in that it uses a rules engine to support agreements that are typically unique to each customer’s transportation requirements.
PACE allows J.B. Hunt’s Dedicated Contract Services segment to capture all relevant order, dispatch and driver activity performed for numerous customers across a wide range of industries. The system then interprets the customer’s contract to apply the appropriate rules to the data for accurate calculation of payroll and billing information.
According to the November 21 issue of the publication, “J.B. Hunt earns distinction as a 2005 Enterprise All-Star for its dedication to get this project right – and the cost savings and business flexibility the company gains as a result. PACE has morphed from a custom-coding project to a flexible, componentized Web services-based system that gives field managers and customers account access anytime, from anywhere.”
In addition, the magazine recognized a remote imaging project currently underway at J.B. Hunt that utilizes the TRANSFLO document management system from Pegasus TransTech. The new system automates the processing of shipping documents by allowing J.B. Hunt drivers to send their documents digitally from hundreds of truck stop locations. The TRANSFLO system automatically indexes and stores the documents providing a 40 percent improvement in processing efficiency. By eliminating the need for documentation to be mailed to the corporate office for imaging, customers have rapid on-line access to their documents.
