PowerLinx Inc. announced the company's DC power line rear vision system, Zone Defense, has been offered for installation by Mercer Transportation Co. of Louisville, Ky.

The Zone Defense system for tractor-trailers eliminates video cables, instead using the vehicle's DC wiring to transmit video images of the vehicle's "blind spots" to an LCD monitor screen in the cab.
A variety of Zone Defense configurations are available to accommodate up to four separate cameras per vehicle. The rear-and-side vision systems purchased by Mercer Transportation Co. will be offered to its affiliated independent owner-operators located throughout North America, currently representing 1,827 units.
Mercer's Len Dunman, director of safety said: "Historically, more than half of our preventable accidents involve right turns and backing. In our field testing, the PowerLinx Zone Defense System has proven itself an effective tool for our owner-operators to use in preventing these occurrences. Zone Defense can be customized in various configurations, and it is both easy and inexpensive to install. The cameras are rugged, and the night vision capability is truly amazing. I am strongly encouraging all of our contractors to invest in this system, and, by offering it through our Mpact National Account Program, have made it even more affordable for them."
