PeopleNet Communications, Chaska, Minn., announced that J.P. Donmoyer Inc., a regional dry bulk and truckload carrier based in Ono, Pa., has equipped its fleet with PeopleNet’s tracking and mobile communications system.

Donmoyer operates a fleet of 110 power units, 85 pneumatic dry bulk tanker trailers and about 30 flatbeds and vans. The company primarily hauls lime, limestone, fly ash and coal for industrial customers based primarily in the Northeast. It supplements that freight with animal feeds.
Donmoyer used to manually calculate fuel efficiency by hooking up a laptop to the engine and downloading all the data manually.
“Our credibility with our drivers suffered because by the time we got the information and tried to address driver behavior, the event had been long forgotten,” said Frank Costanzo, Donmoyer vice president and general manager.
“The PerformX feature allows us to track miles per gallon, idling and PTO economy in realtime. Not only does it save us time and improve accuracy, it has helped us manage our drivers better. We can communicate more intelligently because we have the data right in our hands and we can make changes right away.”
In addition to finding instant feedback less threatening, drivers have also adapted to PeopleNet’s keyboard and display screen. “Our previous onboard system was cumbersome and required our drivers to push all kinds of buttons. The PeopleNet system is far more user friendly. It has a keyboard and display screen that makes it very simple for the drivers to get their dispatch instructions or send an e-mail home to their family.”
