KSAT in San Antonio, Texas, reported that dozens of residents crowded into Cibolo City Hall on Tuesday night to protest the construction of a proposed Flying J Truck Stop on a 16-acre tract of land at Interstate 35
, while in Edinburg, Texas, another Flying J opened in a party atmosphere.
Residents at the Cibolo meeting claimed the proposed truck stop would create traffic congestion, pollution and crime.
"You're going to have noise, the lights and ... possible pollution ... so there is extreme concern," said Cibolo resident Susan Schaezler.
Meanwhile, according to the McAllen Monitor, the opening of another Flying J in Edinburg this week was "festive," with the "noises of celebration added to the sounds of economic progress being made one swipe of the debit card at a time."
