According to a recent account of the company’s history, Truck-Lite Co. Inc. of Falconer, N.Y., was founded fifty years ago in Jamestown, N.Y.
when George Baldwin and Harry Grosser designed the first sealed truck marker lamp. The pair then created the industry’s first sealed stop, turn and tail lamps. The leak-free lamps decreased water and chemical damage to bulbs and started a growing business which is a global enterprise today.
Truck-Lite now supplies lighting and other products such as wire harnesses, mirrors, turn signal switches and accessories on a large scale to the transportation industry. Nearly 70% of the nation’s top 200 fleets specify Truck-Lite as standard equipment on their vehicles.
After a series of acquisitions here and abroad over several decades, Truck-Lite has grown to employ about 2,300 people worldwide. The company is the largest
supplier of LEDs to the heavy-duty commercial vehicle industry and the second largest supplier in transportation.
