At the Truckload Carriers Association convention in Las Vegas today, Qualcomm Inc. announced it has reduced the price of its OmniExpress mobile communications solution to $990 per unit
effective immediately. OmniExpress is Qualcomm’s cellular-based mobile communications system that works over the Sprint network.
In its announcement, Qualcomm said that the current $19.95 monthly per unit will be lowered with the introduction of the so-called 3G digital cellular service by Sprint scheculed for June 2005. According to Qualcomm, the OmniExpress solution is a cost-effective fleet management tool for carriers operating in metropolitan areas and major highways where cellular coverage is available.
OmniExpress provides near real-time automatic GPS reporting, two-way data communications, store-and-forward messaging and data integration capabilities with routing and scheduling systems, and business-
specific office applications. The 3G version of OmniExpress will also be available with QUALCOMM's new automated arrival and depart capability, allowing fleets to automatically track planned and unplanned stops without driver input.
