Melton Truck Lines Inc., Tulsa, Okla., has announced an increase in driver compensation beginning on May 1, 2005.
All company drivers will receive a 3 cents per mile increase in compensation that will be spread over a 3-month period - May, June, and July. These increases should give drivers an annual boost of approximately $3,600 per year. By the end of July 2005, Melton’s top company driver will be making 47 cents per mile, including $40 tarp pay and 1 cent per mile safety bonus. According to the Melton release, this increase will keep Melton drivers and owner operators in the top 10 percent of national driver compensation packages.
In addition to the pay increase, Melton Truck Lines continues its Safety Rewards Program, offering company drivers an additional 1 cent per mile for safe driving, and contractors a $200 quarterly safety bonus.
The company also announced the roll out of 250 new 2006 Kenworth T-600s and 50 new 2006 Volvo 670s into the fleet. With these trucks, the average age of the Melton fleet will be 1.5 years.
