Melton Truck Lines Inc., Tulsa, Okla. is increasing company and contract drivers pay by $.03 per mile starting May 1st.
The raise will be spread over three months, and once fully implemented, should increase driver pay about $3,600 per year.
By the end of July 2005, Melton’s top company driver will be making $.47 per mile, including $40 tarp pay. The increase places Melton’s driver compensation package in the top 10% nationally. In addition to the pay increase, Melton offers a Safety Rewards Program to give company drivers an additional $.01 per mile for safe driving and contractors a $200 quarterly safety bonus.
In other news, Melton has purchased 250 new 2006 Kenworth T-600s and 50 new 2006 Volvo 670s. Once integrated into the fleet, these new trucks will make the average age of a Melton truck 1.5 years.
