The American Moving and Storage Assn., Alexandria, Va., has announced the winners of its 2004 Super Van Operator and Fleet Safety contests.

AMSA sponsors its Super Van Operator contest each year to recognize and honor exemplary drivers and owner-operators who provide safe, reliable and customer-oriented truck transportation in service to the nation’s household goods carriers.
The 2004 AMSA Super Van Operator winners are:
* Rookie of the Year Jose Rodriguez-Suarez, Suddath Relocation Systems, Jacksonville, Fla.
* Household Goods Roy Doty, American Red Ball Transit Co., Indianapolis, Ind.
* Special Commodities Donald Council, United Van Lines, Fenton, Mo.
* Lifetime Achievement Robert Brimigion, Chipman Relocations, Alameda, Calif.
The Fleet Safety Award is given carriers that demonstrate the best weighed combination of the lowest Department of Transportation Recordable Accident Rate per million miles of vehicle operation and lowest vehicle and driver out-of-service rate. The awards are given in four mileage clases.
The Fleet Safety Improvement Award is given to a carrier that demonstrates the best three-year trend of improvement in its DOT Recordable Accident rate; this year from 2002 to 2004.
The Safety Initiative Award is given to a carrier recognizing its leadership and creativity in devising a single component of its safety program that has improved its overall safety and risk management position.
The 2004 AMSA Fleet Safety Contest winners are:

* Fleet Safety Awardunder 5 million miles Security Storage Company of Washington, Washington, D.C.
The award winners will be recognized at AMSA’s Management Conference and Trade Show, March 22-25, 2005, at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Grapevine (Dallas), Texas. The winning fleet safety directors also will be recognized at AMSA’s National Safety Conference in September 2005.
