NATSO reported in its regular newsletter that staff member Enrico Dinges participated in a truck parking study funded by the Maryland Department of Transportation
in which volunteers counted commercial vehicles parked illegally on shoulders and ramps along Maryland highways. Commercial vehicles parked at truckstops, rest areas, and weigh stations were also counted.
Several organizations took part in the study including the Maryland Transportation Authority, Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Maryland Department of the Environment, Baltimore Gas and Electric, Cecil Community College, and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, among others.
The study was conducted over four consecutive nights beginning on January 24. While all the data has been collected, it will take another three weeks for the results to be tabulated and published.
