The FedEx Ground operating unit of FedEx Corp. announced that chief financial officer Ronald R. Trombetta will retire

at the end of the company's current fiscal year on May 31, 2005.
Trombetta will be succeeded by vice president and controller Gretchen G. Smarto.
Smarto served as vice president and controller of FedEx Ground since 1998. She joined RPS in 1993 as director of Credit and Revenue Accounting after a 10-year career with Ernst & Young's Pittsburgh office. Smarto is a 2004 winner of the FedEx Five Star Award, the company's highest honor recognizing individual achievement.
She is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a bachelor's degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Trombetta retires after 18 years with the company, the last seven as CFO. Trombetta was responsible for the financial affairs of FedEx Ground, including strategic and tactical financial planning, capital planning, tax and accounting services, revenue operations, real estate and strategic sourcing. He began his career with Roadway Package System in 1984 as a manager of Financial Planning and held a number of positions in Finance, Planning and Administration for RPS, Inc., which was acquired by FedEx in 1998 and re-branded in 2000 as FedEx Ground.
