News 14 in Raleigh, N.C. reported that a tanker truck overturned and burst into flames on I-95 in Johnston County about 10:15 a.m. Monday morning.
The accident occurred in the northbound lanes at Exit 97.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Carroll Langston, 61, of Clayton, N.C., was flown to the UNC Hospital's Burn Center for treatment. He was reported in critical condition late yesterday
Preliminary investigation reveals that Langston was entering onto I-95 traveling northbound when he lost control of the tractor trailer.
Troopers believe speed may have been a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
The tanker is registered to Daughtry Oil Company of Rocky Mount.
I-95 North in Johnston County at mile marker 97 in Selma will remain closed until Tuesday afternoon, so that N.C. DOT crews can mill and resurface a section of roadway that was damaged during an earlier tractor-trailer accident
NCDOT has activated dynamic message signs along I-95 to alert motorists to the closure.
