NBC Channel 5 in Chicago reported yesterday that big trucks have been avoiding Chicago area tollways since tolls doubled for trucks on New Year’s Day.

According to NBC, state police said the number of trucks passing through Highway 41 southbound has doubled to nearly 80 an hour at one weigh station.
"I choose 41 because I cannot afford to run to the South Side of Chicago," one truck driver said. "It runs me $50 a day to run to the South Side of Chicago. I just won't do it."
"I was told we would see an increase, but I don't think anyone expected an increase of 100%," said Illinois State Sen. Susan Garrett.
