The Los Angeles Times reported that Santa Ana winds blew four tractor trailers onto their sides Thursday and forced the California Highway Patrol to close Interstate 15 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
between Rancho Cucamonga and Devore. No serious injuries were reported in the blow-overs.
Other truckers had to pull over to wait out the gusts, which reached 78 mph at Fremont Canyon in the Santa Ana Mountains between Orange and Riverside counties and 54 mph in Devore near the El Cajon Pass, according to the National Weather Service.
During the height of the winds, the Highway Patrol also closed one lane on westbound Interstate 8 in San Diego County.
