Ruan Transportation has signed a deal to acquire Arbor Freight Service of Eau Claire, Wis.
Arbor Freight operates in Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin with a fleet of 75 trucks and 150 trailers. Ruan Transportation provides dedicated contract carriage, logistics management, bulk carriage, warehouse management and brokerage services.
The Des Moines Register reported Friday that Arbor was put up for sale after its owner, Richard Jonas, 55, died after being hit by a dump truck while jogging near his company’s headquarters.
According to the Register, Ruan was invited to bid for Arbor Freight because the two companies both serve Alcoa, the aluminum company. Abor's Internet Web site at www.arbor-freight.com lists other customers, including Bristol-Myers Squibb, Del Monte, Friskies, Land O Lakes and Nestles Carnation. Sales for Arbor are listed at $11.3 million,
