Professionals from GE's Trailer Fleet Services business (formerly known as TIP), will use the custom 53-foot drop deck unit to educate the trucking industry about specific GE products, services, technology and research focused on transportation and cargo management.
The nerve center of the Mobile Solutions Center is contained at the front of the unit, and features a complete VeriWise installation as well as a satellite dish for Internet connectivity, multiple computers, and an audio and video command center that powers all flat panel and video projection throughout the unit. Powered by a 35,000 kilowatt diesel generator, the unit is heated and cooled with an 18,000 BTU heating and cooling unit. A Freightliner Columbia tractor provided by Penske Truck Leasing, a GE company pulls the trailer.
GE’s Mobile Solutions Center is equipped with VeriWise Asset Intelligence technology and systems. Current VeriWise capabilities and system configurations can be demonstrated in a comfortable setting along with anticipated new product and sensor functionality. The Mobile Solutions Center will be used to describe the applied telematics research underway at the GE Global Research Center in upstate New York. This research will be the foundation for next generation asset intelligence systems, including analytical tools to manage the data flow that is produced by these new integrated systems.
Using three flat panel displays at the center of the new unit, GE professionals can demonstrate the detailed functionality of VeriWise over a live connection to the VeriWise Website, www.trailerservices.com.
"We'll also use the Mobile Solutions Center as an on-site training facility for VeriWise customers," said Marjorie Worthington, marketing manager, VeriWise. "A portion of the trailer is outfitted as a multi-use conference room and training center, with flexible configurations for conference or classroom sessions using a fully integrated projection system."
At ATA headquarters in Alexandria, Va., staff from Trailer Fleet Services at GE opened the unit for tours and briefings on VeriWise asset intelligence systems, tracking and technology. The Mobile Solutions Center will prominently display the ATA’s "Good Stuff: Trucks Bring It" decals on the outside of the unit as it tours the country in 2005.
