The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported Thursday that a multiagency commercial vehicle enforcement initiative was launched in Georgia, and a key focus of the effort is along Interstate 75 in North Georgia.
The Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety, Governor's Office of Highway Safety and Georgia's professional truck drivers organization are backing the program.
As part of the initiative, officers are checking for speeders, seat-belt law violators and drivers under the influence while also conducting the standard checks of commercial vehicles.
Capt. Kenneth Blythe said that effort stretches from the Gateway to Georgia, where I-75 enters Catoosa County from Tennessee, all along the popular corridor to the Florida line.
Capt. Blythe said in a normal 24-hour period, his crew would inspect more than 24,000 commercial vehicles traveling I-75 in Catoosa County. He said there were 11 mobile road units in the region, which extends to Bartow County.
