Peterbilt Illinois, a Rockford, Ill., dealership has purchased a VIS-Check, a computerized diagnostic device that combines brake inspection and road simulation.
VIS stands for Vehicle Inspection System.
Peterbilt Illinois purchased the VIS-Check tool from its Australian manufacturer under an exclusive arrangement with PACCAR, the parent company of Peterbilt Motors Co. The agreement between the companies makes the advanced diagnostic technology available only to PACCAR dealers for five years. Peterbilt Illinois is part of JX Enterprises, which has eight Peterbilt locations.
"VIS-Check is already generating a quick return on our investment. In just a few short months we've seen an increase in the shop's workload. In fact, it's the main reason we added a third shift and hired four additional technicians,” said Peterbilt Illinois general manager Rich Yezzi
According to Yezzi, VIS-Check detects problems a technician can't notice in a visual inspection. The small, portable system sits just eight inches off the floor and requires only a hydraulic power source and a computer terminal. To complete the 30-minute inspection, each axle of a vehicle is driven onto the system's rollers, which spin the wheels while the driver applies the brakes. The device also shakes the truck to simulate road conditions and identify suspension and other chassis problems.
VIS-Check determines brake performance, including timing and balance, and measures axle weight and wheel rolling resistance.
Peterbilt Illinois provides a complimentary VIS-Check service on every customer vehicle that is brought into the dealership for service or repair, a $149.95 value.
"By identifying problems early and eliminating breakdowns. VIS-Check prevents costly issues for customers and helps enhance highway safety,” Yezzi said.
