Last year, Arsenault released Pocket Dossier, a hand-held version of its flagship Dossier maintenance software for an off-the-shelf personal PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) with Wi-Fi wireless networking and bar-code scanning.
Now the New Jersey-based maintenance software maker has added digital cellular connectivity so Pocket Dossier can connect to a Dossier database using a major wireless service -- Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, AT&T or T-Mobile. A manager can access, enter and manipulate fleet data from virtually anywhere there is digital cellular service, not just in range of office or terminal Wi-Fi hotspots.
According to Arsenault, users will be able to look up licenses, permits and work pending; they can see existing repair orders and enter new ones; they can track parts inventory, fuel data and scan barcodes – all from next door or a continent away. The PDA will also be a phone. Arsenault says Pocket Dossier is the first truck maintenance software to provide the wide-area connectivity of international digital networks.
