Acculeon, Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., has introduced their Telemetry Information System equipped with Vehicle Safety Manager software.
The system records speeding, tailgating, unsafe handling on curved road segments, rapid acceleration, sudden stops and frequent lane changes.
The Acculeon system, which does not deal with logistics at all, contains a gyroscope that records driving characteristics invisible to other driver monitoring systems. The company says customers can expect a 6 to 9 month return on investment. The system consists of in-vehicle hardware (or black box), a cellular and/or WiFi link and web-based analysis and report generation software.
The hardware captures and records driver events through inertial sensors, a GPS receiver and an onboard geographical map database. The gyroscope tracks weaving and excess speed in turns. The accelerometer tracks rapid acceleration, sudden stops and tailgating. An onboard map database provides road geometry and speed limits, while the GPS receiver tracks vehicle location.
The Acculeon cellular solution interfaces with external GPS receiver and existing cellular infrastructure. The Acculeon WiFi solution is a stand-alone unit with an onboard GPS receiver and 802.11b Wi-Fi module to use hotspots at customer sites or truckstops.
Acculeon’s software generates reports and graphical charts that can be customized to tie in directly with business models. The software provides specific recommendations to help correct driver behavior and suggests contacting insurers for premium discounts.
