Schneider National Inc., the Wisconsin-based transportation and logistics firm, said t it will extend differential pay and benefits from six to 18 months
for its associates who have been called to active duty by the National Guard and Reserve components of the armed forces.
Deployed associates now receive differential pay and benefits -- including medical, dental and retirement savings -- for up to 18 months. Schneider National also offers a number of initiatives that provide support to associates’ families during their absence, and guarantees jobs to all associates serving with the National Guard and Reserve upon their return from active duty.
"Schneider National has a long, positive history of support to the military. Transportation and logistics often are natural career choices for exiting active-duty military personnel who also select to become members of the Guard and Reserve," said Tim Fliss, vice president of human resources at Schneider National Inc. "Extending benefits is a way to show our appreciation for the sacrifice and dedication these guard members and reservists make on behalf of our country."
"By extending benefits and providing differential pay for a full 18 months, Schneider National alleviates the financial burden that many service personnel and their families face when reservists are called to active duty," said Dan Ammerman, a senior financial analyst at Schneider National. "This will help Schneider National associates who are serving their country in the military to focus on military duties without worrying about financial strains and the additional turbulence of changing medical care providers for our families during our absence."
Schneider National is among the nation’s largest private employers of separating military personnel. The company actively recruits military professionals and offers training programs that complement previous military experience.
Nearly 25% of the company’s associates have military experience. In 1996, the Defense Department recognized Schneider National with the first ever "Employer Support Freedom Award" for its continued support program for associates deployed to Bosnia. In 2003, the National Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve named Schneider National a "My Employer is a Patriot" certificate of appreciation recipient in recognition of the company’s employment policies and practices that are supportive of employees’ participation in the National Guard and Reserve.
