GCR Tire Centers recently announced that its tire retreading facility in Clearwater, Fla., achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification
, an international quality management system.
This is GCR’s first retreading facility to receive certification. Six other GCR retreading facilities are in the process of becoming ISO 9001:2000 certified.
The ISO 9001:2000 certification process recognizes facilities that have passed an intensive third-party examination of globally recognized quality management requirements.
A certified facility has demonstrated effective implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures that help increase employee quality awareness, reduce the amount of re-work done in the facility and lower costs and consumer complaints. The certification process may take up to a year to finalize and facilities must be recertified every three years with annual surveillance audits.
The Clearwater facility is one of 29 GCR Tire Center retreading facilities in North America operated by BFRC. The facility retreads truck tires, a common practice in an industry where trucks travel between 80,000 to 400,000 miles annually.
