SkyBitz, Inc., Dulles, Va., has introduced geo-fencing to its Global Locating System trailer tracking platform.
SkyBitz Adds Geo-Fencing, Arrival & Departure Notice

SkyBitz’s InSight GeoFencing solution enables fleet managers to predetermine geographic boundaries for trailers and sends an alert when a trailer moves outside set boundaries or off a designated route. The system also reports arrivals and departures.
Insight GeoFencing will launch in a two-phase process. Phase one will introduce a trailer lockdown feature, which limits an asset to a designated area and provides arrival and departure notification. In coming months, Phase Two will add geographic boundaries and a route adherence capability. Customers can choose to be alerted by e-mail, pager or PDA if trailers go outside predetermined geographic borders.
As part of the GeoFencing product launch, SkyBitz will host a Webinar this Thursday (July 22) from 1 – 2 p.m. EDT. Vice President of Engineering Jim Kilfeather will discuss the company’s new GeoFencing service, as well as other SkyBitz features such as reporting profiles and sensors.
SkyBitz’s Global Location System technology provides the same information as GPS, but does so without computing location onboard. Rather positions are calculated on the ground, using less power and enabling SkyBitz units to run on standard AAA lithium batteries.
