Qualcomm Inc., San Diego, Calif., announced that National Freight has selected Qualcomm's untethered trailer asset management solution
for its fleet.
National Freight is a nationwide logistics provider and truckload fleet based in Vineland, N.J. According to Qualcomm, up to 4,000 National Freight trailers will be outfitted with the untethered solution.
Since 1989, Qualcomm has provided a tethered tracking system to more than 35,000 trailers in North America. That system, called TrailerTRACS, provides trailer ID, drop-and-hook notification, location, status and information when connected to tractor equipped with OmniTRACS, Qualcomm’s satellite communication system.
The as-yet unnamed untethered trailer-tracking solution being developed will offer those features plus a variety of other options, including door and cargo sensors, geofencing, over-the-air update capabilities and visibility of assets and loads whether or not a trailer is connected to a tractor.
