The Highway Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) has contacted federal and local DOT and Law Enforcement agencies to forecast closures or delays resulting from the Ronald Reagan Presidential memorial events
through Friday.
Traffic conditions will be the most difficult in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. See the following information to plan the best route around traffic closures.
The President Reagan funeral events today through Friday in the District of Columbia may very well effect numerous "motorcade/ceremonial/security" closures of portions of the National Highway System within the District of Columbia.
Highway ISAC suggests that drivers avoid any unnecessary travel through the District of Columbia, avoiding I-395 from Arlington, Va. into D.C., the Southeast/Southwest Freeway, Suitland Parkway from Morningside, Md. into Southeast D.C., I-495 (Capitol Beltway, both directions) at Andrews AFB in Prince Georges County, Md., the Theodore Roosevelt and Memorial Bridges, and I-295 (which is still currently under construction in both directions from the Blue Plains / Naval Research Lab exit to the I-495/Md. Route 210 interchange.)
Highway ISAC does not recommend using local streets inside downtown Washington as an alternate route due to the fact that there will be intermittent closures of Pennsylvania Avenue NW from the Capitol to the Ellipse as well as local streets around the U.S. Capitol (to include Pennsylvania Ave. SE, S. Capitol St., N. Capitol St., B St., C St., and D St.) If transportation professionals must travel in the District of Columbia today through Friday, it is recommended that they stay as far away from the downtown area as possible, using Route 50 (New York Ave. NE) on the south/east side and Georgia Ave. NW on the North/West side as Beltway Connectors
In addition, all operators are urged to maintain a high level of awareness when driving commercial vehicles or conducting other operations in the geographic regions surrounding these events. Any suspicious or unusual activity that may have any type of security implication should be immediately reported to local law enforcement. Highway Watch professionals should communicate all observations to the Highway Watch Call Center. Management is also encouraged to forward reports to the Highway ISAC.
