AirGate Technologies Inc., Allen, Texas, has formed what it calls BAT –- for Black Arts Teams -- to attack problems with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems.
Each team consists of a reader/tag specialist, an RF engineer and a software database integration specialist. The teams will include other specialists as needed.
“Because of many technical issues that face customers attempting to implement RFID, today's RFID landscape is more 'black arts' than science,” said Mike Sheriff, CEO of AirGate Technologies. "Many companies are deploying RFID pilot programs driven by competition or mandates from the Department of Defense and large retailers such as Wal-Mart. Some companies will find themselves in trouble. Where do they turn for help? The vendor who led them into the technology may not be qualified to integrate all aspects of an implementation. If an RFID deployment has been initiated through in-house resources, how will internal politics and chain of decision-making affect deployment time?
