Intermec Technologies Corp., Everett, Wash., announced that its digital wireless-enabled 700 Color mobile computer has been approved to operate on the Rogers Wireless network,
Canada's largest, digital wireless voice and data network.
Intermec claims the device is the first of its kind to integrate up to three wireless communication options. The mobile computer features a Wi-Fi radio, a GSM/GPRS wide-area network radio and a fully integrated power-managed Bluetooth radio.
Wi-Fi is the increasingly popular wireless option used for yard-wide applications. GSM and GPRS are communications modes provided by the Cingular and T-Mobile wireless networks. Bluetooth is a short-range wireless option that can link devices within a room or vehicle.
These options allow the same device to communicate from virtually any location, whether via wireless local area networks in stores, warehouses and distribution centers or through a wireless wide area network for mobile operations such as delivery vehicles.
According to Intermec, the 700 Color can withstand repeated five-foot drops onto concrete and features a color display 20% larger than most similar devices, combined with the power and speed of Intel's 400 MHz X-Scale processor.
