GE TIP, Devon, Pa., introduced five new features for its GE VeriWise trailer tracking solution.

They include cargo sensors, door sensors, drop-and-hook notification, geo-fencing and low-battery notification. According to GE, the features were developed in response to customer research and will be rolled out over the next three months.
Two of the new features are hardware-based:
-- Cargo sensors enable a fleet to monitor shipments in transit and determine when load status changes between loaded and empty.
-- Door sensors report location, time and date of a trailer's door opening or closing and is compatible with both swing and roll doors.
Three of the new features are software-based, and can be activated remotely:
-- Hook/drop notification enables reporting when a trailer is hooked to, or dropped from, a tractor.
-- Geo-fencing allows unlimited geographic boundaries around specific addresses. A trailer passing through an assigned boundary generates an event report. Multiple geo-fences can be assigned to a specific trailer.
-- Low battery notification helps customers identify trailers that have been sitting idle for extended periods.
At the same time, the company announced an enhanced web interface for GE VeriWise that offers advanced search criteria for easier access to asset information. It also enables fleets to reconfigure event reporting of individual or groups of trailers. The enhancements enable fleets to customize the types and amounts of data they receive, easily export that data into a spreadsheet, and reduce the time spent optimizing operations.
