Teletouch Communications Inc., Tyler, Texas, has ventured into new pricing territory for trailer tracking.

The wireless services company has broken through the $300 barrier -- offering its basic GeoTrax trailer tracking hardware for $295 -- and once-a-day location updates for $6 per month.
The $295 tracking unit provides one-way-communication only. It can only send reports on a pre-established basis and cannot be pinged -- or prompted -- for an unscheduled position report. However, the company offers a two-way unit for $345. The GeoTrax system communicates over the GlobalStar low-earth-orbit satellite network.
Teletouch displayed its prices at last week’s Wireless & Mobile Technology for Trucking and Delivery Fleets in Atlanta. According to a Teletouch spokesman, the company will be placing test units in 11 fleets whose representatives attended the show.
