Boyd Bros. Transportation, Clayton, Ala., has announced an increase in its overall driver pay program.

The new package includes raises in per-mile pay for company drivers and owner-operators, as well as increases in layover and detention pay, which are designed to address issues with the new hours of service regulations.
The company said the pay increase is just one element of its constant evaluation of driver programs, enabling Boyd to attract and retain some of the most talented professionals in the industry.
"We’ve always prided ourselves on being in the driver’s corner," says Betty Nix, Boyd’s director of recruiting, adding, "Our recent pay increase is just another example of that dedication to helping them."
The pay increase will be implemented throughout the first quarter of 2004.
Company drivers with up to one year of experience will receive increases of up to 6.8%, resulting in up to three cents per mile more (as much as 32 cpm). Company drivers with more than a year of experience will see increases approaching 10%, which can raise pay as high as 38 cpm.
Owner-operators will also see a mileage increase, taking pay up to 88 cpm for contractors with more than six months experience in the company’s Lease Purchase Program. Owner operators who bring their own truck will also be offered the choice of mileage pay or a percentage pay option of 70% (with a company trailer) or 77% (with their own trailer).
In addition to over-the-road mileage pay, the company also has a graduated stop-off pay scale, and they have increased both regular and weekend layover pay, as well as detention pay.
As one of the largest flatbed-only carriers in America, Boyd Bros. operates a fleet of more than 1,000 company-owned and owner-operator tractors.
