Every year around the holidays the City of Virginia Beach Police Department organizes a Driver Appreciation Morning for commercial truck drivers.

This year, the event will be held on Monday, Dec. 22 at the old I-264 toll plaza -- east bound —- in Virginia Beach, Va.
It runs from 8 a.m. until the food is gone.
This will mark the 10th year that Master Police Officer Dean Godwin has organized the event. He’ll be getting some help from local motor carrier safety officers and members of the Specialized Transportation Safety Coalition.
Normally, when truck drivers pull into the truck inspection area, they are gathering documents and preparing for a full DOT commercial vehicle inspection. But on Dec. 22, drivers will be greeted with a smile, eggnog, ham biscuits, donuts and Christmas cookies.
"Most can't believe it," Godwin said. "In fact, the out-of-state drivers really can't believe it. They have never heard of such a thing."
