Datatrac Corp., Atlanta, Ga., has introduced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology into eTrac,
the web-based solution that enables delivery companies, cartage agents, couriers, shippers and freight forwarders to transmit shipping information in real-time for robust track and trace capabilities.
Now eTrac users will be able to generate RFID tags through the eTrac network as orders are placed. The tag associated with an order is applied to the package during pickup. With RFID tags on the freight, the line-of-sight restrictions of bar code technology are removed. RFID automates data capture in cross-docking and sorting operations and reduces the need to breakdown pallets to scan content. The solution works in conjunction with Datatrac's GPS enabled wireless solution, which provides real-time freight location and movement information.
Availability of Datatrac's RFID solution is slated for the first quarter of 2004. Datatrac has partnered with Xterprise to expedite its implementation. The partnership with Xterprise will include supply and delivery of the necessary hardware, tags, installation, and training.
