Con-Way Transportation Services Inc., Ann Arbor, Mich., jumps into its 13th year of participating in the national Red Ribbon drug abuse prevention campaign, beginning the week of Oct. 20.

The company's six U.S. operating units will send thousands of employees into schools and communities across the U.S. to present anti-drug messages to young people. The campaign runs from October 20 to 24.
Con-Way provides freight delivery and logistics services to commercial and industrial businesses in North America. The company has more than 18,000 employees nationwide in more than 450 locations.
"It's very important for businesses to participate in the welfare of their communities, and we can't think of a bigger positive impact we can make than to share this anti-drug message in our schools," said Gerald L. Detter, president and chief executive officer of Con-Way. "The health of a community is often reflected in the health of its children, and drug prevention continues to be a critical issue."
Last year Con-Way employees visited 1,200 schools as part of its "Adopt-A-School" program for the campaign in which company employees took the program's message of a drug-free lifestyle to more than 659,000 students. As in previous years, Con-Way employees will also distribute hundreds of thousands of red ribbons embossed with the program's message: "I Have A Bright Future in My Hands -- Freedom is Drug Free!"
Campaign materials are often delivered to schools in Con-Way tractors and trailers, which serve as an added attraction for many youngsters. The Red Ribbon campaign was established nationally in 1987 by Californians for Drug-Free Youth Inc.
Con-Way Transportation Services, Inc. is a $2.1 billion transportation and services company.
