Rip Griffin Truck Service Centers and Truckstop.net have entered into an agreement to offer high-speed wireless capabilities and access points to customers at all 14 travel centers
and three affiliated truck services facilities.
These access points make use of the popular 802.11 wireless technology -- commonly referred to as wi-fi -- to deliver high-speed Internet access from wherever they are.
These services will be available with unlimited use through individual hourly, daily or a monthly subscription and will include roaming capabilities with select partners.
Sprint’s high-speed digital fiber-optic backbone enables Truckstop.net to power the wi-fi hotspot network throughout the continental United States and Canada. In addition, Sprint will conduct site surveys, manage installation and maintenance of all the equipment and deliver high-speed access through its nationwide backbone network.
President Mark Griffin said, "Wi-fi is one of the major keys to the future of the transportation industry. The services we are looking at offering are extensive and have many benefits to the trucking community and other travelers. Truckers and travelers will be able to maintain real-time communication with their customers, dispatchers, family and -- because of the high speed Internet we will offer -- never before available services at our locations, such as video on demand."
He said additional retail sales will include stocking hardware for travelers such as laptops, PCs and wireless network cards.
