Comdata Corp., Brentwood, Tenn., has established a permitting office onsite at the corporate headquarters of truckload carrier Landstar System Inc.
, in Jacksonville, Fla.
This is the first such outsourcing agreement between Comdata and one of its more than 21,000 truckload carrier customers.
As part of the multi-year agreement, Comdata staffs its permitting office with five full-time employees who process and distribute oversize and overweight permits for Landstar’s fleet of more than 8,000 owner-operator trucks. According to Comdata, Landstar is the leading transportation provider for oversize and overweight freight and a major supplier to the United States military. The company issues approximately 10,000 permits per month.
Comdata’s Regulatory and Legal Compliance Services division provides permit services, annual licensing, fuel tax and pilot car services for many truckload and passenger transportation companies in the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the division processed 1.2 million permits for more than 4,000 companies in 2002. Comdata is a wholly owned subsidiary of Minneapolis-based Ceridian Corp.
Landstar's carrier group is comprised of Landstar Gemini Inc., Landstar Inway Inc., Landstar Ligon Inc. and Landstar Ranger Inc. Landstar's multimodal group is comprised of Landstar Express America Inc. and Landstar Logistics Inc.
