The Transportation Sales & Marketing Assn. (TSMA) recently honored Vernon Schrof, president and CEO of Nu-Way Transportation Services Inc. of Bloomington, Ill., with its Outstanding Service Award.

The award, which is presented annually at TSMA's spring conference, is given in recognition of an individual's contributions to the association and development of professionalism in the industry.
" We couldn't be more delighted to present Vernon with this award," said Fran Glidewell, vice president of sales and marketing for G.I. Trucking Co., La Mirada, Calif., and chairperson of TSMA. "Vernon really exemplifies the heart behind the TSMA organization, working to serve others in the industry by putting professional development first."
Schrof has been a member of TSMA for more than 25 years, and during that time has served on numerous committees and the board of directors, and has held several offices within the organization.
After serving in the United States Army, Schrof began his career in transportation as a driver for PRD Trucking. He also drove for Chicago-St. Louis Transport and then joined Nussbaum Trucking in 1974 as an owner-operator. In his first five years at Nussbaum, Schrof held many positions, including sales executive, director of sales and marketing, general manager and vice president. He was elected to the position of president and CEO in 1979.
Schrof continued as president and CEO of Nussbaum Trucking for 21 years, retiring in March 2000 to devote himself full-time as president and CEO of Nu-Way Transportation Services Inc., the logistics company he started in 1994.
"The true purpose of our business is to solve the logistics problems our customers face today, and help them plan for the ones they will face in the future," Schrof said of the Nu-Way mission.
Beyond his many roles with TSMA, Schrof has served on the board for the Illinois Transportation Assn., as well as numerous local transportation affiliates. He is currently vice chairman of the National Motor Freight Traffic Assn. (NMFTA) and is on the board of the National Classification Committee.
