USFreightways Corp.'s shareholders have approved a change in the name of the company to USF Corp. in a decision made at the annual meeting held in Chicago last week.

The board of directors requested a change in the name of the $2.25 billion holding company to more accurately reflect the breadth and depth of its transportation products and services. USF Corp. provides LTL and TL transportation, as well as a full complement of logistics services to its customers.
"Changing our company's name to USF is an external manifestation of what is happening internally," said Samuel K. Skinner, chairman, president and chief executive officer of USF Corp. "We're committed to providing the same high level of quality, no matter which of our operating companies is delivering the service."
The company recently standardized services for its LTL companies, including USF Premier, USF PremierPlus, USF Guaranteed, USF Guaranteed Before Noon, and USF Expedited.
Last month, USF Technology Services launched version 3 of USF Net, an upgraded and enhanced extranet for LTL customers. Another USF Technology Services project involves the development of a shared freight management system for USF's transportation network.
Both USF Corp. and its subsidiaries will retain the familiar orange, white and blue livery. The company features a network of independently operated companies that compete collectively. USF's five regional trucking companies -- USF Bestway, USF Dugan, USF Holland, USF Red Star and USF Reddaway -- provide next-day regional and national less-than-truckload services.
