Roadway Express Inc., one of the nation's leading less-than-truckload freight carriers, was recently honored at the California Trucking Assn.'s (CTA) annual Safety Awards banquet
in Sacramento.
Accepting two first-place awards on behalf of Roadway were Larry Koeneke and Lynwood Player, district safety managers; Charon Crites, road driver and current ATA America's Road Team member; and Melissa Lonero, road driver.
Roadway's two first-place Truck Safety Awards for accident frequency in a year were received in the less-than-truckload General Commodities Division -- more than 7 million line-haul miles and more than 4 million local and inter-city miles.
Candidates also have to be a member of the CTA and complete a biannual terminal inspection by the Department of California Highway Patrol.
"We all congratulate these exceptional over-the-road and city pickup and delivery drivers for their excellent safety performance," said John Bronneck, executive vice president of operations for Roadway. "It is important to our company to be honored by such a fine organization as the CTA."
