USF Red Star Inc., a USFreightways Corp. company, has bought Plymouth Rock Transportation Corp. and will begin service to all of its customers beginning April 21.

Based in Stoneham, Mass., Plymouth Rock Transportation currently provides overnight freight service to 11 Northeastern states from Maine to Virginia.
USF Red Star provides LTL (less-than-truckload) service throughout the United States and Canada. It offers a full range of high-value next-day, regional, national, and time-definite services. This is accomplished through the USF Red Star network of 31 terminals within the Eastern U.S. and Canada and USFreightways' combined network of 254 terminals in North America.
"USF Red Star has been vigorously working on putting together a transition strategy that will be truly seamless for Plymouth Rock customers," said Steve Caddy, president of USF Red Star. "Not only will we be providing reliable and consistent next-day service, there will now be additional benefits from the entire portfolio of services offered by USF Red Star and USFreightways."
Under the terms of the sale, all Plymouth Rock sales representatives and a number of their management and clerical employees have been offered positions with USF Red Star. In addition, all of Plymouth Rock's drivers will be offered positions on USF Red Star employee seniority lists.
