An overwhelming majority of Freightliner workers at the company's parts distribution warehouse in Duluth, Ga. have voted in favor of UAW representation.
In an election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board last week, union supporters garnered 42 out of 48 votes.
"We're excited that a strong majority of Freightliner workers in Duluth have decided they want a voice at work," said Gary Casteel, director of UAW Region 8, which includes Georgia and 10 other Southeastern states.
Workers at the Duluth warehouse, located just north of Atlanta, ship parts to Freightliner dealers throughout the Southeast. They will join more than 5,000 Freightliner workers who are now part of the UAW, including workers at three North Carolina manufacturing facilities located in Mt. Holly, Gastonia and Cleveland.
Mt. Holly workers voted for UAW representation in 1990; workers in Cleveland and Gastonia voted in favor of the UAW during card check elections held earlier this year.
