Western Star Trucks today unveiled its new Stratosphere StarLight Sleeper, an 82-inch Stratosphere sleeper offering full stand-up room and a flat floor throughout the cab and sleeper.

On the outside, the Stratosphere's external configuration allows for the installation of roof-mounted air horns and marker lights. Western Star says this combination of internal comfort and external styling features is unique to their product.
The Stratosphere sleeper is available on all Western Star 4900 models, including the EX, FA and SA. It is available for order immediately.
John Merrifield, senior vice president of sales & marketing, said, "In this new sleeper, the owner-operator will enjoy one of the most open and spacious living compartments available without giving up traditional styling."
According to Merrifield, the Stratosphere provides a significant amount of additional headroom in the area between the driver's and passenger's seat.
This allows the driver or passenger to stand up and walk through to the sleeper compartment -- without crouching or bending over. Since the floor is flat between the cab and the sleeper, the driver or passenger does not have to worry about steps or ledges.
The Stratosphere sleeper is available in three trim levels - Phoenix, Mesa and Dakota -- with numerous cabinet, storage, window and lighting options.
Four different bunk configurations are available, including the optional dinette sleeper seating package which provides two seats and a table, turning the sleeper compartment into a comfortable area for eating, reading or doing paperwork. In addition, a new optional skylight window adds to the sleeper's airy feel.
Standard sleeper features include:
-- Foam mattresses
-- Singlelower 42-inch bunk w/netted bunk restraint
-- LHS cabinet w/fridge prep and two drawers w/slide-out work surface and upper area storage
-- Cab-to-sleeper privacy curtain
-- Easy access to under-bunk storage area
-- Left and right-hand luggage compartment doors
-- Ribbed rubber mat in luggage/tool compartment
-- Two incandescent lamps in luggage/tool compartment activated by luggage door switches and bunk switch
-- Convenience door LHS and glass panel RHS
-- Four overhead halogen lamps with individual and main switch control
-- Incandescent floor lamp
-- 12V power outlet mounted in control panel
-- High capacity heater w/sleeper control panel
-- Painted aluminum skirts
-- Semi-integral mount-to-cab with air-ride support
For added comfort, customers can specify:
-- Convenience door RHS and glass panel LHS
-- Convenience doors on both sides
-- Glass panels on both sides
-- Sliding rear glass panel
-- Stainless steel sleeper skirting with and without lighting
-- Side extenders
Optional storage configurations include:
-- RHS cabinet that includes clothes closet with doors, upper storage area and shelves for TV and microwave
-- Rear wall storage cabinet with doors
-- Cabinets are available in three finish levels: SLS, SLX and SLG
To make life on the road that much more comfortable, the Stratosphere offers a wide range of comfort options:
-- Air conditioner in sleeper
-- Digital automatic temperature control
-- Wide range of vent windows
-- Deluxe spring mattress available in all sizes
-- Raised upper bunk w/optional storage cabinet
-- Sleeper start kit which includes: ignition switch, stop engine light, check engine light and digital clock
-- Dinette Sleeper Seating Package

-- A variety of stereo systems, including Monsoon stereo

A further benefit of the Stratosphere Star Light Sleeper, according to Merrifield, is the fact that it can be converted into a daycab after being used as a sleeper, which increases the resale value of the vehicle in the truck market.
